I’m done.

I’m done sending “thoughts and prayers” to victims of gun violence. I’m done ticking off names of U.S. cities and the number dead associated with each city’s name. I’m done holding back out of fear of the NRA and gun manufacturers. I’m done accepting this violence and fear as inevitable.

Now is the time to ACT. I will act by working as hard as I can to win on November 8th so that we can take legislative action next January. I will act by talking to my family, friends and neighbors about how we can work together to create and effectuate change. I will act by not remaining silent.

It is not lost on me that this latest horror in Orlando was almost certainly motivated by hatred of our LGBTQ friends. But right now I am horrified by the number – currently 50 – and the fact that ONE PERSON could ruin so many people’s lives in such a short amount of time because of the weapon used.
